Mega goodies, mini price

With the Amazon.com gift card I bought on Wednesday, I scooped up Fossil Fighters on the Nintendo DS, and the second collection of Mega Man comics (“Time Keeps Slipping”). While I can’t comment on Fossil Fighters since it just arrived and I barely started playing it today, I can safely say that the second story arc is just as good as the first. It was nice to see the Robot Masters working together in this volume, even if it meant having to put up with Cut Man’s love of stupid puns (he also does this in most of the other adaptations he’s featured in).

Time Man and Oil Man, the two new characters from Mega Man Powered Up, are Dr. Wily’s main henchmen in this arc. Time Man looks the same as he did in the video game, but it seems that the artist was able to get around displaying Oil Man’s gigantic lips by having him wear a scarf all the time (because “lol blackface” is definitely not an image some non-Japanese comic fans would appreciate). I’m not too keen on the way Chad Thomas draws noses – they’re much pointier compared to Patrick Spaziante’s style – but I suppose I could get some decent scans or avatars or what-have-you from them.

The end of issue #8 is a preview of the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2…and unfortunately, the third volume collection won’t be out until August, so I’ll have to make do with the two volumes that I have until it’s ready. I think I may check out the Mega Man Megamix/Gigamix manga one of these days, which I hear is also of decent quality.
